DESIGN BY RONAN AND ERWAN BOUROULLEC, 2016
With the Can sofa, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec seek to go beyond the creation of a practical, elegant and comfortable design. The intention is to reinvigorate the whole idea of the sofa, from something inherently complicated to something simple, relaxed and accessible. The sofa comes flat-packed and can be easily assembled at home from three basic elements – frame, cover and cushions.

Materials
- Frame: Powder coated steel or chromed steel.
- Mattress & Cusions: Foam and recycled polyester fiber duvet. Mattress with integrated anti-slip fleece on the back side. Non-reversible mattress. Piping is the same material as the selected fabric or leather.
- Outer Canvas: Black canvas or Natural canvas.
- Black Cotton Strap: Attached to the outer fabric
- Gliders: Plastic. Standard on all variants. Suitable for all floorings that are not too sensitive
Construction
Steel tube legs and crossbars are assembled to bent sheet metal seat using screws and spring clips. The canvas is added to the steel frame during assembly, tightened and kept in place by plastic profiles and a cotton strap with velcro, which are sewn onto the canvas. Mattress with anti-slip velcro material on the back side is attached to the frame’s two pre-mounted velcro strips. Requires assembly

About the designer
Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec the Paris-based design brothers from Brittany have been working together since 1998. Ronan is a graduate of the École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and Erwan attended the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts in Cergy before starting their own studio.They have transformed the design industry and offered new perspectives of materiality and purpose. For HAY, they have designed the Palissade Collection, Balcony Collection, CPH Collection, Can Collection, Passerelle Collection, Élémentaire Chair and Pier System.
