Design: Marcel Breuer, 1924
While an apprentice at the Bauhaus, Marcel Breuer conceived the first tubular chair, which he based on the frame of a bicycle. The construction of leather strips suspended on steel tubes was the first chair of its kind, becoming immediately a symbol of Modernism. Later named for the artist Wassily Kandinsky, the classic icon is made of tubular steel finished in polished chrome, with upholstery straps in a range of leather colors
Expanding from its usual polished chrome look, three new ultra-matte finishes have been introduced. Now coming in Dark red, White and Onyx, each respective hue is incorporated into its curved, tubular frame and paired with leather slings. For a touch of personalization, a range of color options is also available for the chair slings, offering some versatility to complement various palettes and moods of different spaces.
