NEW COLORS OF THE CLASSIC

Should classic designs be modified? Many people will have one definite answer – “no”. However, there are some changes that benefit even the classics. One of them is dressing well-known and valued shapes in new colors and finishes. This technique was chosen by Fritz Hansen, a company that offers i.a. the unique Arne Jacobsen chairs.

Arne Jacobsen chairs need no introduction. “Ant”, “Series 7” or “Grand Prix” are iconic pieces of furniture that embody the design DNA of Fritz Hansen. Their sublime forms inspired by nature and non-obvious shapes have delighted many. The numbers are proof – millions of units have been sold by the Fritz Hansen factories producing them since the 1950s when they were first designed.

IN COLOR

Can such an ideal be even more perfect? Carla Sozzani, an Italian editor, curator of many projects, owner of the iconic Corso Como 10 gallery in Milan, and a trendsetter – confirmed that. She was the one behind the development of the “A sense of color” palette, which includes sixteen new colors in which Arne Jacobsen chairs are already available.

Among the offered colors you can find i.a.: dark bottle green and delicate sea blue, golden ocher and subtle pink… Importantly, all shades match the veneers available so far – incl. maple, beech, elm, cherry, oak, pine and walnut. In addition, they all compliment each other perfectly, creating endless combinations that are distinguished by harmony and warmth. New colors can appear on both seats and chair frames, which opens the way to many intriguing combinations.

IN PRINT

Those who are not satisfied with the color change can count on even more variations. The “Ant” chair, in the “Ant Deco Silhouette” edition, is also available in a printed version that combines modernity with traditional form in an original way.

Designed by Krista Rosenkilde, the vivid pattern was originally carved by the artist on linoleum, then scanned and digitally printed onto the chair’s curved surface. In the production process, great emphasis was placed on keeping the small traces of the manual work done by the Danish designer. These elements show its idea and craftsmanship, emphasizing the authenticity of the whole. It is already known today that the Ant Deco series will continue in the coming years. The new graphics will keep its freshness and timeless, yet still youthful character.

IN FABRIC

But this is not the end of the news. In this year’s collection, the Fritz Hansen brand has gone one step further. The “Serie 7” chairs in the latest edition are also offered in fabrics. The carefully selected, luxurious Italian velvet gives the chairs elegant softness. The rich texture of the material – cut and uncut bristles – emphasizes the characteristic shape of the furniture, combining Scandinavian design with the rich traditions of the South. Resistant to crushing and damage, the fabric is available in ten vivid colors, which correspond well with the powder-coated deep brown legs. The whole is simple but luxurious seats, e.g. for a modern dining room.
